About the Company is a fast-growing publisher of in-depth literature study guides that help students, teachers, and everyday readers understand a variety of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry texts. Having built a library of more than 2,500 study guides over the last 5 years, we’re now investing in expanding our leadership team and building systems to scale content production — to double our output per year — for the next wave of growth.

About the Job

The Content Operations Manager will be an integral part of the SuperSummary Content Team, reporting to the Head of Content. This role will own study guide content production, optimization, and reporting. As Content Operations Manager, your primary goal will be to scale and streamline SuperSummary's study guide production with laser focus on quality, operational efficiency, and predictability. As part of a data-driven team, each day you will work to build out teams and systems that ensure consistent growth across all content production KPIs (team capacity, team productivity, monthly production, etc.). Given the distributed nature of our team, this role is remote; our team is distributed throughout the United States and abroad.

Key functional responsibilities for this role include:

  • Systems & Tracking: Maintain content management systems, team documents (instructions, standards), and project tracking across multiple distribution channels.

  • Reporting & Analytics: Plan continuous improvement roadmaps to meet production KPIs and regularly monitor progress against goals to identify potential issues and opportunities for improvement.

  • Team Capacity: Increase speed-to-market for study guides, and minimize delays, by implementing data-informed, proactive team planning and productivity standards.

  • Recruiting & Hiring: Creatively source, interview, and onboard contractors for both Content Team and Operations Team positions; write job descriptions, screen resumes, and develop trial projects.

  • Management: Directly lead a team of 5+ Content Managers and Operations team members; indirectly lead a team of 100+ writers and editors.

  • Product: Uphold content quality.

Sample projects this role may oversee in the next 6 months:

  • Assess and implement improvements to our current study guide production workflow.

  • Review current success metrics for content operations/production, and suggest improved analytics.

  • Reconceive the writer recruiting process, including forging strategic partnerships to best source writers.

  • Evaluate potential additional distribution channels for SuperSummary study guides.

  • Conduct a thorough audit of study guide content for consistency and quality, especially ensuring that older study guides meet current standards.

  • Identify and hire for new Operations Team positions.

  • Design new production tracking procedures, instruction manuals, and team training documents.

  • Evaluate and select new tools to improve everyday team tasks, such as shared email platforms, project management and task delegation dashboards, etc.



The ideal candidate will have previous experience developing and managing high-volume content production operations; the ability to put data analysis to proactive and effective use; and a high degree of comfort managing people and complex projects and processes. Additional valuable experience includes a love of reading, any writing/editing experience, and familiarity with the education and/or publishing sectors.


  • 5-10+ years of experience in relevant functional roles (content management, editorial operations, business operations, project management, etc.)

  • Ability to hire, lead, and motivate remote team members working across the content production pipeline

  • Strategic and critical problem solving skills, and the ability to articulate a vision and set direction

  • A desire to continually innovate and improve

  • Management experience that includes overseeing multiple team members, multiple project deadlines, and multiple content platforms

  • Highly organized with a meticulous attention to detail and an ability to manage competing priorities

  • Excellent communication and project management skills

  • Proficiency with content management systems (CMS)

  • A degree in Organizational Development, Education, Business, Communications, or similar is preferred but not required
